24 month post-doctoral fellowship by the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven)

24 month post-doctoral fellowship by the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven)

The Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) designed the fellowship in response to the European Commission’s MSCA4Ukraine: Fellowships Call for applications. The candidate must be a displaced Ukrainian scholar or scientist or one that would be willing to leave Ukraine for the duration of the fellowship. This fellowship supports a project to be carried out jointly in cooperation with a consortium of organisations in Ukraine and in Europe with expertise and experience in the topic.

About the project

The ‘Cancer Patient Crisis Navigation’ project focuses the development of the ethical aspects of a navigation framework for cancer patients in clinical trials whose interventions and/or care are disrupted due to health emergencies, natural disasters, and/or geopolitical conflict. During the recent global COVID-19 health crisis as well as within the ongoing Ukraine conflict, cancer (and other) clinical trials have been seriously disrupted leaving patients without clear pathways to navigate their ongoing clinical trial participation or their cancer care. Local researchers, regulators, ethics committees, and research organisations have adapted their trial conduct in order to ensure ongoing patient engagement and care. In the context of Ukraine, displaced clinical trial participants have been transferred to new sites based on regulatory and ethics measures taken within Ukraine and across many EU Member States.

The candidate will be welcomed into the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law as well as into the KU Leuven as a full member of the Centre and the university.
