Science Europe stands with the Ukrainian research community: appeal to peace

24 February 2023, marks the first anniversary of the russian aggression and occupation of Ukraine. Science Europe and its member organizations expressed their solidarity with and support of the people of Ukraine.

One year on, the invasion caused massive casualties, large-scale damage to essential infrastructures, and a major refugee crisis. Estimates indicated that more than 8 Million Ukrainians are out of their country and 5.3 million are internally displaced, including a number of researchers, most of them women.

In its statement, Science Europe emphasized the devastating impact of the war on Ukraine’s education and research sector and state that European and international research community must continue working together  to support Ukrainian colleagues.

 PROCEED TO THE STATEMENT

We remind you that Science Europe is the Association representing major public organisations that fund or perform excellent, ground-breaking research in Europe. In November last year, the National Research Foundation of Ukraine acquired full membership in the Association under a simplified procedure and under special conditions: we were exempted from paying membership fees for 2022-2023.

We are deeply grateful to our European colleagues for their support and help to the Ukrainian research community in this difficult time! We will make every effort for our successful cooperation to ensure the progress and prosperity of our countries.
