2nd DESY Ukraine School in Summer 2024

Following the first edition in 2023 (DESY Ukraine Winter School 2023), the 2nd DESY Ukraine School will take place in Summer 2024 and will be done in parallel/jointly with the DESY Summer Student program 2024. Applicants for the first edition who were not successful are welcome to apply for the second edition.

DESY is one of the world’s leading research centers for photon science, particle, and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.

The school provides physics students enrolled at a Ukrainian university the opportunity to obtain first-hand research experience at a large international laboratory. Students are invited for an 8 week training period (onsite – not remotely) during 16 July – 5 September 2024 to DESY Hamburg or Zeuthen and experience research in one of the various fields pursued at DESY:

  • Photon science
  • Elementary particle physics & Accelerators
  • Astroparticle physics

Research projects can be categorised into different types of activities: practical work on detectors or experimental equipment, physics data analysis, software development, theory, and scientific computing. More details on the available activities can be found here.

The project work is complemented by a comprehensive lecture program, tailored towards the key topics of DESY research. The total working time per week for research and lectures is 39 hours.

Due to the travel restrictions affecting male students, DESY will endeavor to provide an online program for those male students accepted to the Ukraine School who are unable to travel in person to DESY.
