Women in Science: Celebrating Inclusion and Shaping the Future of Research

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day for Girls and Women in Science, established to highlight the critical role that women and girls play in science and technology and promote measures to strengthen their participation. To mark this anniversary, and ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Science Europe invites you to a webinar to discuss the crucial importance of integrating Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in research systems and processes and the role of research organisations in supporting inclusive practices that encourage diverse research environments and empower under-represented groups to drive scientific excellence.

The event aims to:

  • Discuss the role of EDI in enhancing research quality and impact, from the perspective of research organisations.
  • Identify strategies to overcome barriers faced by women and underrepresented groups in science from the perspective of researchers.
  • Promote policies and practices that support EDI in research institutions and funding bodies.
  • Encourage collaboration and networking among member organisations to share best practices and lessons learned in advancing EDI.

The programme will include:

  • Presentation by Marcela Linkova, National Contact Centre for Gender & Science at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences; Co-Chair of the ERA Expert Group on Inclusive Gender Equality, who will share her experiences and insights on EDI in research.
  • Presentation by a Research Funder representative who will discuss how funding decisions are made and how EDI is considered in these processes.
  • Presentation by Carmen Mayoral Gastón, Tenured Scientist. Instituto de Carboquímica (ICB), Exécutive Vice-President, Women and Science Committee of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), focusing on institutional policies and practices that promote EDI.

Date and time: February 28, 2025, 14:00 – 16:00 CET
