The first day of the Global Research Council Annual Meeting

The 10th Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) which is being held in Panama this year, started yesterday. Executive Director of the NRFU Olga Polotska was invited to take part in it.

The first day of the Global Research Council Annual Meeting was dedicated to discussing strategies and consolidation of researchers worldwide to provide sustainable development of the Amazon region.

The Amazon presents itself as one of the great complex problems of today. Both its importance and complexity transcend national borders and demand actions within the framework of transnational collaborations. It is a good example of how important is joint effort of researchers, funders, governments and societies in their attempt to address global issues that cannot be possibly solved on a national level.

Challenges faced by researchers and funding agencies in the region seem to be very similar to the ones faced in the rest of the world. To name just a few: gaps of knowledge, communication and effort coordination, duplicating of research, looking for additional resources for research, communicating potential of research done or to be done for other socio-ecological systems.
