Further cooperation between the NRFU and Science Europe

On November 29 and 30, the General Assembly of the Science Europe Association was held in Madrid, Spain, in parallel with the 15th Science Europe High Level Workshop on ERA on the topic “Challenges to Reciprocity and Equitable Scientific Collaboration between Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean”.

In the course of events the member organizations made the necessary statutory decisions on the activities of the association in the coming years. An important event was the election of a new president and governing board. Thus, Mari Sundli Tveit, Executive Director of the Research Council of Norway (RCN), became the new President of Science Europe. In addition, we are pleased to announce that Science Europe has once again expressed its unconditional support for Ukraine and, in particular, the NRFU as a new member of the association: the Foundation was exempted from paying membership fees for the third time in 2024.

Since the beginning of the war, Science Europe has been loudly declaring its solidarity with Ukraine and calling on all members of the Association and the international research community to support Ukrainian researchers, including using fast-track procedures for mobility schemes, available funding instruments or administrative support, as well as supporting and expanding projects and calls involving Ukrainian researchers. Thanks to the understanding of our European colleagues, last year the Foundation gained full membership under a simplified procedure and on special terms: we were exempted from paying membership fees for 2022-2023. It is difficult to overestimate the professional assistance provided by the members of the Association to the NRFU. Thanks to participation in the work and events of the NRFU, in particular, international initiatives have already been launched or are being elaborated in order to provide Ukrainian researchers with new grant opportunities, as well as opportunities to form sustainable professional relationships with European researchers.

The NRFU congratulates the new President Mari Sundli Tveit on her election to the honorary position of President of the Association and expresses its great gratitude to Science Europe for such a powerful support!
