Joint Call ‘Collaborative Researcher Project on Mental Health in Ukraine During and After Wartime’

The National Research Foundation of Ukraine, together with the Research Council of Norway (RCN), announces the call for proposals “Collaborative Researcher Project on Mental Health in Ukraine During and After Wartime ” (hereinafter – the Call).

The Call aims to fund joint research projects between Ukraine and Norway focused on improving the mental health of Ukrainians experiencing psychological stress due to the ongoing war. The funded projects will develop and evaluate concrete, actionable, context-relevant and research-based interventions.

  • Project duration: 24–36 months (2–3 years)
  • Project funding amount:  NOK 2–6 million per project
  • Amount of funding presumed available for this Call: NOK 30 000 000
  • Earliest permitted project start: 01.01.2027
  • Latest permitted project start: 01.05.2027
  • Open for applications: 11.03.2026
  • Application deadline: 29.04.2026

The scientific and technical review will be conducted according to RCN procedures (details). RCN will fund the selected joint projects and allocate funds in accordance with its rules and procedures (details), and the Terms and Conditions of the Joint Call described in the Joint Call Text.

The list of applications selected for funding is expected to be published in December 2026.

The joint competitive selection  is conducted in accordance with the Lead Agency Agreement between the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and the Research Council of Norway, signed on 22.01.2026.

The terms of the competitive selection, the time and place of the Call, the requirements for Call participants, the PI, project team members, the criteria for project selection and numerical evaluation, as well as the grounds for rejection of applications on formal grounds, are set out in the documents available via the links below:

Applications and supporting documents for participation in the Call shall be submitted via the MyRCN web portal (information on the use of the software system, including submission and withdrawal of applications, is available via the relevant link).

In addition, the Ukrainian partner must submit directly to the NRFU (to the email address nrfu@nrfu.org.ua) all documents attached to the application and listed in the National Rules for the Ukrainian Partner within three working days after the application deadline.

List and templates of documents to be submitted by the Ukrainian participant together with the application and directly to the NRFU:

  1. Consent of each project author (for the PI and for other authors) to the implementation of the project (in Ukrainian, in accordance with the approved template) (download);
  2. Consent of the Ukrainian partner to the implementation of the project signed by the head of the legal entity (the fact of the absence of information constituting a state secret in the proposal materials must be indicated in this consent) (in Ukrainian, in accordance with the approved template) (download);
  3. Certificate from the place of work of the PI with a mandatory indication that he/she works at the main place of work in the legal entity that is Ukrainian partner (in Ukrainian, in accordance with the recommended template). NOTE: the certificate must contain the phrase ‘AT THE MAIN PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT’ (download);
  4. Every Ukrainian researcher’s CV in English in accordance with the template provided in the Joint Call Text;
  5. Amount of funding by individual cost items for the Ukrainian partner (in Ukrainian in accordance with the approved template) (download);
  6. Project description that is part of the application submitted to the MyRCN webportal (in English) containing no personal data of the Norwegian individuals participating in the Joint Call on the Norwegian partner’s side.
