Lviv Data Science Summer School 2023

During the week of August 6-12, 2023, the Simons Foundation, the US National Academy of Sciences and the Ukrainian Catholic University are organizing a one-week on-campus summer school on data science and applications.

The goal of the school is to provide opportunities for Ukrainians who have difficulty with international travel and to connect them more deeply with colleagues and potential partners outside Ukraine working in data science.

One of the outcomes will be to expose early career researchers in different areas, including astrophysics, physics, the biological sciences, and policy, to the latest developments and methodologies in data science that have application to their future research or professional work.

The school will include interactive lectures from global experts in numerous fields and smaller breakout sessions to explore methods and applications further. After the intensive session, participants in the summer institute will also work online on capstone projects with additional mentoring from the international group of experts.

Organizers

Participation 

Undergraduates, Ph.D. students, and young scientists, who use DS and ML methods in their work are invited to participate. Participants will be elected through the application process.Applications will be reviewed on rolling basis. Selected participants will be contacted immediately after the decision is made. The application will be closed after 50 participants are registered.

Fees

Participation fees, travel expenses, meals and lodging will be covered by the Simons Foundation. Participants will be granted a stipend (UAH equivalent of 500 USD including taxes at the time of payment) for active participation in capstone projects.

Venue 

The school will be on the UCU campus.
