Science Europe expresses solidarity with Ukrainian researchers on the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion

On the fourth anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Science Europe and its member organizations once again reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU) and the entire Ukrainian research community. In their statement, they highlighted the exceptional resilience and dedication of Ukrainian researchers, encouraging the continued development of research activities even under the challenging conditions of war.

READ THE STATEMENT

Since the NRFU became a member of Science Europe, the association and its member organisations have consistently supported the Ukrainian research ecosystem. Over the past several years, a number of significant initiatives have been undertaken, among which:

  • suspension of cooperation and participation in research programs with russian institutions;
  • opening new funding programs for Ukrainian researchers and allocating additional resources;
  • launch of joint initiatives to support Ukrainian researchers, implemented in collaboration between Science Europe member organisations and the NRFU;
  • exemption of the NRFU from paying membership fees;
  • organization of a series of joint Science Europe-NRFU webinars to the capacity-building efforts of the Ukrainian research ecosystem.

Science Europe confirms that these activities will continue, and Ukrainian researchers, research institutions, and the NRFU can count on strong partnerships and ongoing support. We sincerely thank our European colleagues for their solidarity and contribution to supporting Ukrainian science during this extremely challenging time. Together, we are taking important steps to strengthen Ukraine’s research potential and integrate Ukrainian science into the European Research Area.
