A survey on scientific instruments / research equipment and metadata for research infrastructure recovery in Ukraine is being conducted as part of the project “Metadata Mapping for Scientific Instruments in Ukraine”, led by the Open Science Lab at TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library.
The project is supported by the Philipp Schwartz Initiative, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
The survey aims to understand how scientific instruments and research equipment in Ukraine are documented, accessed, governed and described through metadata, especially in the context of research infrastructure recovery.
The survey does not assume that there is only one registry or system. It aims to understand how information about scientific instruments / research equipment could be better described, connected and potentially integrated across existing institutional, disciplinary and national research information systems.
What “scientific instruments” means here
“Scientific instruments / research equipment” means physical, digital-technical, analytical, monitoring, computing, measurement or data-generating equipment and infrastructure. It does not mean questionnaires, psychological scales, or other survey/psychometric “instruments”.
Participation is voluntary. Participants may stop participating at any time before submitting their responses. Survey responses will be analysed only in aggregated and anonymised form for scientific research purposes. The legal basis for data processing is consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Before giving consent, participants are asked to read the Data protection information sheet and Participant information sheet.
The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes and consists of 40 questions.
The survey is anonymous. The record of survey responses does not contain any identifying information about participants, unless a specific survey question explicitly asks for it.
If an identifying access code is used to access the survey, the code will not be stored together with the responses. It is managed in a separate database and will only be updated to indicate whether the participant did or did not complete the survey. There is no way of matching identification access codes with survey responses.
