NWO Hop-On Call for Researchers Based in Ukraine: NWO-NRFU Partnership Initiative 2023

We are honored to inform Ukrainian research community that on July 18, 2023 the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU) and the Dutch Research Council (NWO) signed Protocol to the Memorandum of Understanding and agreed to join forces to launch the new “NWO Hop-On Call for Proposals for Researchers Based in Ukraine: NWO-NRFU Partnership Initiative 2023”. Researchers in Ukraine will have the opportunity in this call to collaborate with scientists in the Kingdom of the Netherlands to pursue their scientific careers.

The aim of this partnership intiative is to encourage online participation of qualified researchers in Ukraine from all scientific disciplines in ongoing NWO projects and to expand their professional network in the Dutch research community. The NWO project team can offer advice and information.

Project PIs of ongoing (or soon-to-be-started) NWO research projects will have a temporary opportunity to have part of the project carried out at a knowledge institution in Ukraine by a researcher there. Dutch PIs can apply for funding to pay for an appointment of one researcher in Ukraine for 6 to 24 months plus material budget. A total of €250,000 is available for this scheme and a limit of a maximum of one grant per Ukrainian knowledge institution. Per project, a PI can apply for a maximum of €25,000.

An application can only be submitted to NWO by a Dutch PI via the online application system ISAAC. Applications not submitted via ISAAC will not be taken into consideration.

Applications can be submitted at any time from 11 September 2023. The final deadline is 8 April 2024 at 14:00 CET. Applications must reach NWO at least 2 months before the intended start of the Ukrainian partner’s participation in the ongoing NWO project. Applications will be awarded on a first come – first served basis.

Information session and matchmaking

For interested researchers from the Netherlands and Ukraine, NWO and NRFU are organising an online information session on 17 August 2023 from 10.00–11.00 CET. In this information session, NWO and NRFU will give a short presentation on this call and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Online registration is required at the link.

NWO and NRFU will also organise an online matchmaking meeting to bring together interested researchers from the Netherlands and Ukraine. This will take place on 28 August 2023 from 13:00-15:00 CET. Online registration is required at the link.

You can learn more about the initiative:
