The NRFU nominates Ukrainian female researchers to the international database AcademiaNet for the second time

In order to support Ukrainian female researchers, as well as to implement the mission and objectives of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, which include, in particular, international exchange of information and researchers, popularization of scientific and scientific-technical activities, development of research infrastructure in Ukraine and its integration into the global research infrastructure and etc., this year, the Foundation performed the process of selecting and nominating Ukrainian female researchers for their inclusion into the international database AcademiaNet in 2024 for the second time.

The AcademiaNet platform was initiated in 2010 by the Robert Bosch Foundation in cooperation with research organizations, universities and research institutions.

The goal of AcademiaNet is to promote equal opportunities for women in science, in particular by increasing their presence in leadership positions, involvement in expert committees, and providing opportunities for research cooperation at the international level. Candidates for inclusion in the database are recommended by partner organizations – research institutions, foundations, etc. which ensures high standards of selection.

Selection criteria

In accordance with the Agreement on the Nomination of Ukrainian Female Researchers to the International Database AcademiaNet, signed in 2022, the National Research Foundation of Ukraine has the right to nominate female researchers who have experience of direct professional relations with the NRFU (in particular, members of the NRFU call commissions, project managers of the winning projects of the NRFU calls, experts who participated in the evaluation of applications for grant support from the NRFU).

In addition, nominees must meet the AcademiaNet selection criteria, which include:

  • outstanding academic qualifications (depending on discipline: publishing, prizes and awards, independently raised funding, patents, invitations to conference talks etc;)
  • independent leadership activities;
  • academic credentials;
  • further supporting criteria (balancing family with academic career, international experience, positions held as visiting professor, teaching activities, social commitment, involvement in research and university committees/commissions, etc.)
