“I am Carmen Bachmann, a full professor for Business Taxation at Leipzig University (Saxony, Germany). A few years ago, I founded the platform Chance for Science to bring academics at risk and German professors and institutions together – for this reason, numerous students, academics and scholars affected by the war in Ukraine are currently contacting me and looking for appropriate networking and points of contact. Through the platform and my academic position and achievements I myself have quite a far-reaching network within the German academic landscape.

My PhD student and I have created a conference to support students, academics and scholars affected by the war in Ukraine during the past days, which will be held online via Zoom on April 22, 2022. During the conference, participants will have the opportunity to present a specific research project or their scientific work in short presentations and thus get in contact with local research institutions, initiatives, professors and companies. We organized a similar conference a few years ago and it had a great outcome. We also invite our German colleagues from different disciplines in a session where we also hope that Ukrainian students, academics and scholars will participate, where we can discuss what kind of help is mostly needed.

Therefore, it would be very helpful if you could also invite Ukrainian scholars to not just talk in theory.

There will be also information on funding and support opportunities for scientists and students here in Germany, as well as the opportunity to exchange ideas and engage in conversation directly in smaller breakout sessions.
